Part Four: It's Now Official

A stunning uniformed state policeman climbed out of the bubbled cockpit. Jack, as the manager of the weekend, walked out to greet him. "I'm Sergeant James Burnside, homicide, State police."

"Jack Conti," said Jack, thrusting his hand out in greeting. "Manager of the resort. Glad you could get here so fast, considering everything." He couldn't help eyeing up the young uniformed hunk standing in front of him with a basket packed for days. Jack thought to himself, "I'd love to get a crack at that crotch. Jesus, it's at least eight inches soft if it's an inch!"

"Okay, fill me in on the details," Sergeant Burnside said in strictly business tones. "All we got at the barracks was a message about a murder being committed."

"Follow me," said Jack as he led the way to the office. "Excuse me, Dennis. We need the office. I hope you found what you were looking for. See Sam or Neil if you need to use the limo's telephone again. They can place the call for you."

"Thanks. I think I found what I need. Excuse me, Sir," said Dennis as he left Jack alone in the office with the uniformed Adonis.

"Please have a seat," Jack said, pointing to a chair next to his desk. "Basic background. Every weekend we have a group of people come in to enact and solve a make-believe murder. The murder occurs in the wee hours of Saturday and the guests have until Sunday noon to figure it out. This week's guests, and I'll rely upon your discretion, are all gay. I trust that won't make you feel uncomfortable in dealing with them. Unfortunately, in the middle of everything, we've had a real murder. The body is on the floor of the barroom. It was our bartender/guest for the weekend. His name is, or should I say was Carlo Santarelli. We've tried to leave everything as it was when the body was found. The only things that have been altered is that we covered the body where we found it, and we locked up the murder weapon, a knife from our kitchen, in our safe to preserve any fingerprints that may be on it. We didn't want it to disappear or have the killer switch it with another one. I hope you don't think that was too presumptuous on our part. We marked on the floor in chalk where it lay before we bagged it. One of our other guests has been taking body temperature readings to help the coroner set the exact time of death, although we can definitely limit the time of death to between 3:00 and 5:45 this morning."

"I see," said the sergeant.

"We also talked to each other and tried to identify where everyone was and what they were doing at the time. The major complication is that we had our planned make-believe murder happening at the same time. I can assure you that everyone is here who was here. No one has come or gone. Since we know the killer is one of us, everyone is obviously as nervous as can be.
